Gorgeous Book!

  I’m sure you’ll agree!

My first hardback copy of The Inheritance arrived today.  As you can see, it has a dual cover, one for each of my writing names. And dual Jackie Morris cats as well. I’m very pleased with how this came out!

Tonight, I’ve updated my upcoming appearances, too. (For those of you reading this on LiveJournal, the information appears on my website at www.robinhobb.com)  In addition to visits to SupaNova Pop Culture Expo in Brisbane and Melbourne, I’ll be making a stop in Sydney to sign at a Dymocks there.  I’m very excited to be making this trip, and I’m looking forward to meeting a lot of Australian friends, old and new.  There is quite a line up of talent guesting at SupaNova, from music to illustrators, actors to writers, and well, all sorts of amazing people.  It’s well worth a visit to their website to learn all the particulars.

In other news, I’m in the process of yet again splitting one book into two volumes.  What was going to be the third installment of the Rain Wild Chronicles will now be the third and fourth installments.  Tonight I just finished adding the additional material, and I’ll be sending the first half of it back to the editors to see what they think of it.  To be absolutely honest, I’ve relished the chance to expand the tale even more.  I love these characters and I’ve really enjoyed spending time with them.  Malta and Reyn both get a bit more space to play in these books. so if you enjoyed those characters in Dragon Keeper and Dragon Haven, or if you’re a long time reader and remember Malta as the spoiled little hoyden from The Liveship Traders, I hope you’ll welcome her back.  We haven’t yet settled on a title for either volume, but when we do, I’ll report it here immediately.

And now, back to work!

Robin

    Have a nice working day!

  2. Oh, such wonderful news !!! Two further Rainwild Chronicle Books – how marvellous !!! I am really looking forward to meet all of them again and also, to spend some more time with Malta and Reyn. It will be great pleasure. Perhaps we will also meet Tintaglia again. I simply loved her arrogance ! Hach, I can not wait for it.

The dual cover of The Inheritance looks really nice to me. What an interesting idea. Gee, I am still waiting for Amazon to give me a date of delivery. I hope, it will be very soon.

Have a good time in Australia with all you fans there. I really envy them to be able to meet you. Take care and come home safe and sound.
    Best regards
    Christina

  3. Good news !
I love this cover ! Does it read only one-way, though ? Nice idea, in any case 🙂

As for Dragons 3 & 4, I suppose your readers (if they’re like me) love having the pleasure to read even more of you :p
And with Malta at that ! She’ll probably … ooh I won’t say, it might be a spoiler for some :p

  4. Hi Barbara!

The only way it could be better would be if I could have a stop-by in Italy, too!

Miss you all. Blood Memories was so kind and welcoming to me!

  5. Hi Robin,

I am very excited at the possibility of meeting you in Melbourne, are you going to be there all 3 days of Supanova or should we aim for a specific day?

I have loved all of your books and can’t wait for the new one(s).

    Kieran

  6. Hi Megan!
I cannot tell you how immensely pleased and thrilled I am to hear that there will be not only three but four books in the Rain Wild Chronicles! I love to read about the dragons and all the people, the first book was fantastic and as I am travelling I have not yet got the chance to purchase the second one, but I look for it in every bookshop I enter! Thank you for enriching my life with your wonderful books!
    Love!
    Minna (Sweden)

  8. Another two books of Rain Wilds? I couldn’t be more thrilled!

Sad that you’re not coming to Tasmania, it’s beautiful down here. I tell everyone that they should see Tassie if they can find the time. Have fun on the mainland however!

  9. Wonderful news! Can’t wait!
I’ve been a fan of your work for a few years now and I have to say that I have serious withdrawals everytime I finish one of your books.

My friend recommended the Farseer trilogy to me a few years ago and she told me that I absolutely have to read the books because it is so different from anything she had read before. She was right because I felt the same way too. I read the first three books in Finnish but then I switched to the original versions. The language you use is amazing and I think it does more justice for the storytelling to read the books in English.
You have a wonderful imagination and I hope that you will have a long and productive career.
    Your fan from Finland, Katri

  10. Thanks so much for sharing. Your productivity and the “art” you’re creating are such an encouragement. I’ve greatly enjoyed your books.

I’m pretty sure Seth Godin would call you a linchpin. Your art is an amazing gift to your readers.

  11. I finally finished all of your books as Robin hobb!! I kind of read them out of order because I couldn’t stand the thought of being on a ship for three whole books. I have to visualise when I read and it ended up making me feel claustrophobic at the thought. I of course had to give you a chance and you defiantly superseeded my expectations, As always! I love Malta’s character! It is always the characters that I just can’t stand once you first meet that I end up liking the most. Thank you for what you do. You are always appreciated! Not only did you give me a great passtime but also you made a somewhat strained relationship between me and my mother better. We both love your books and cannot wait for the next two and to also try out Megan Lindholm’s style.

  12. Robin – this is great news. Like others here, I love the Rain Wilds setting and to know that two books are coming is awesome. Can’t wait to read them!

I’m also going to read “The Inheritance” and get a taste of Megan Lindholm. I’ve gotta say – it must be interesting to be two distinct authors with different voices!

  13. Hello,

I am planning to go to see you at Saint-Malo for Etonnants Voyageurs, but I do not know when you will be there : is it the 11th, 12th or the 13th of June ? I will come from Paris and I wish to meet you and hand you my work of research I would have complete at this time 🙂
I am working on the Assassin’s Apprentice for my university research this year and I would be so happy to have you reading it !

    Regards,

    Cécile.

  14. Just found this website. Have already read the 2 new rain wild books and am thrilled to hear that the story will stretch out to 2 more books. Have re-read all the farseer and rain wild books again and loved picking out the overlap areas. Hope you come to Ireland one day. 😛

  15. Cécile, I would be so pleased to meet you there ad to see your work. I am very complimented!

I expect to be present for all of Etonnants Voyageurs. At this time, I do not have a schedule that shows me details, but I think I will be there for the entire festival.

    With best wishes and thanks,

    Robin Hobb

  16. I’m so thrilled that we’re getting two more Rain Wild Chronicles books – thank you so much Robin. I think the story of Alise and Leftrin is as moving and full of suspense as that between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy!

I’d love to travel through the Rain Wilds, it seems such an evocative place it must be real somewhere.

  17. The area of Washington state in which I live does have what is called temperate rain forest. And of course, that’s part of the inspiration for the Rain Wilds. So, in a sense, it is real.

  18. YAYAYAYAY, so looking forward to reading the next two instalments of the Rain Wilds. I love these characters as much as Fitz and the Fool, maybe even more 😛

  19. What exciting news! I can barely wait for the next Rainwild books. Will have to content myself with re-reading Dragon Haven in the meantime. Oh hang on, I did that immediately after reading it for the first time!
Robin, you have such a talent, thank you for sharing it with us. I am in Brisbane and look forward to meeting you at Supanova!

  20. Just learnt two very exciting things today: (1) you’re coming to Brisbane (my partner and I can’t wait to meet you at the Supanova); and (2) there will be two more books in the Rain Wild Chronicles! Live Ship Trader series were the first fantasy novels I ever read and they (plus the Rain Wild series) are still my favourite books today.

  21. Count me in for the Sydney event – I just missed you last time 🙁
I’m a little confused by the event description/address though – Dendy Newtown is actually a cinema and there’s no Dymocks anywhere near there. Judging from the price it sounds like we need to book ahead too?

It just so happens though that my other favorite author Terry Pratchett is in Sydney at the same time for the Discworld Convention, else i’d be following you down for the Melbourne Supanova! A shame you won’t both be at the same event, but it’s shaping up to be a fantastic week for Fantasy fans nevertheless 😀

  22. Hi Daniel!
I’m looking at my schedule again, an updated one. It still says Dendy Theatre Newtown, King Street, Newtown.

So, not knowing the area, I’m as puzzled as you are. As I get new information, I’ll post it here.
